Fash-lanthropy: Jewelry That Gives, Double Happiness

May 10, 2011

In many cases fabulous jewelry makes the wearer happy.  But in the case of Double Happiness jewelry, they are teaming up with Project Have Hope, to bring happiness and empowerment to women and children in Uganda’s Acholi Quarter.

Project Have Hope is an organization that helps to rebuild the lives of women who have lived through drastic circumstances during the civil war with Northern Uganda.  As an initiative to rebuild their lives, the women craft paper beads from recycled magazines and political ads in effort to make a living.  Each bead is rolled and then dipped in a varnish to give it a sheen, hardness and durability.

With the beads, Stephanie Wells, Creative Director and Co-Founder of Double Happiness jewelry created these two beauties with the beads:

…and these Double Happiness gold fill earring filled with Project Have Hope handmade paper beads.
