Fall Dress Styles For Your Body Type

August 28, 2012

Are you in need of figure-flattering dresses for work, afternoon tea and all of those other ‘dress up’ appropriate functions in your busy life? Well, recently Adam Yankauskas, the designer of Maggy London shared with me the perfect dresses from their Fall 2012 collection for various body types. Wondering what the brand has to offer for your shape? Read on….

NT: It appears that the construction of several of your dress designs incorporate panels. What is about your technique that compliments the shapes of woman in a way that it does?

AY: We bring our understanding of the shape of a woman’s body into every piece we design. This insight is what makes our styles and silhouettes flatter every body type.

NT: From your collection, what dress shape is perfect for women who want to downplay their hips?

AY:  A fit-and-flare silhouette, like our Cap Sleeve Boucle Lace, is best for downplaying hips. Any style that features side paneling are also a best bet, since they detract attention from the hips and focus it instead on the volume of the skirt. We also love a good wrap dress – it’s a universally flattering cut that keeps the line of the body moving, creating a sleek, sexy silhouette, no matter your body type.

NT: For a woman with a thin frame, what dress would give the illusion of curves and shape to her figure?

AY: Peplum dresses are wonderful to slim the appearance of the waist and create the illusion of a curvy silhouette. Styles that feature contour seaming that follows the natural lines of the body also help you achieve a curvy figure. Again, the fit-and-flare silhouette would also give women with a thin frame more curves.

NT: Can a petite woman pull off the color block trend from your collection?

AY: Absolutely. Color blocking isn’t designed to shorten a woman’s silhouette, so petite women can definitely pull off this trend. The only thing to avoid is a color blocking pattern that cuts off the natural lines of your body.
