2 Beauty Essentials To Keep You Relaxed This Thanksgiving Weekend

November 20, 2012

If the thought of preparing Holiday dinner or hitting the streets for Black Friday makes you anxious, then be sure to  include some R&R in the mix.

Aromatheraphy is my answer for calming my nerves and being at ease. Of course, I’m  not suggesting that you crowd your schedule even more with a trip to the spa, especially if you’re saving up money for Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Simply have a few scented candles and fragrant body washes available for a relaxing shower or bath and I can assure you the stress will melt away.

You may also want to keep the candles in mind for setting a relaxed ambiance throughout your home for your guests.

Thanksgiving 3 Day Get Away: How To Pack For A Stylish And Light Trip

November 19, 2012

I’ll be the first to admit that I used to always pack a TON of stuff for trips on the road. A shoe for each look, a change for night and day, more than one jacket – I would totally over pack. While at my destination, I would have way more items than necessary and anything I thought I would change into for the night only ended up being the same thing I had on during the day.  But, I totally get that while away from home we often want the comfort of home with us. But isn’t the point of getting away to lighten our minds, to chill out and just relax? To that point, this is exactly why I no longer pack more than what’s needed when going on a mini-vacation. So, if you happen to be hitting the road for Thanksgiving, consider my packing tips for being stylish while traveling light.

1) Bring one overnight bag and roll up ALL items that need to be packed.

2) Have a coat that is heavy and can be worn with a dressed up look or casual one.

3) Only pack what is needed and consider packing items that are versatile.  For instance, have two pair of pants at the most – the pants you will wear while traveling, and one extra pair. Include a few tops – three at the most. For special occasion trips such as Thanksgiving, have a knit or wrap dress.

4) Even though the winter month calls for bulky fabrics, consider packing thin wool knits. They can easily be rolled up and placed in your overnight bag.

5) Make sure the shoes you wear during the trip can also be paired with the outfits packed. I suggest a ballet flat – its easy and comfortable to wear while traveling and versatile. In the bag, include a boot that can easily dress up a casual look.

6) In case you are tempted to go Black Friday shopping while on your trip, have a foldable tote in your bag. If you purchase clothing, the items can easily be rolled up and put in the bag. In case the items don’t fit, simply consider mailing them back home.

7) Pack your basic grooming essentials in either a zip lock bag to protect your clothes in the event that something spills.  Also put your jewelry, curling iron and makeup in a cosmetic pouch.

STYLE MAN-DATE: Russell Simmons & Joseph Abboud Argyleculture Spring 2013 Collaboration

November 17, 2012

On Wednesday morning, icon Russell Simmons and designer Joseph Abboud introduced the Spring 2013 Argyleculture collection – a line they collaborated on for the new well-dressed man.  I had a chance to review the collection, and ladies..this collection has all the essentials for your man to refine his style – even if his look is no-fuss and laid back.

Simmons created Argyleculture for the successful man whose lifestyle has evolved beyond where it once was during his younger hip-hop days. The collection was created to genuinely appeal to consumers of all races, colors and backgrounds.

For Spring 2013, the Argyleculture line includes well-tailored sportscoats in rich textures, sophisticated woven shirts, pants, seersucker vests and v-neck sweaters – all ideal for creating a handsome, well-styled look. Men shopping the collection can expect to find a full range of quality-made pieces for an affordable price with wardrobe essentials costing anywhere from $69 – $125.  The collection also includes eyewear for men “looking” to find a few good pair of specs to compliment their style and sight.

Argyleculture is currently available on argyleculture.com as well as Belk and Macy’s department stores.

Boden Spring/Summer 2013 Preview

November 17, 2012

This past Wednesday, I had a chance to attend the Spring/Summer 2013 Boden collection preview in NYC. In case you’re not familiar with Boden, it’s a London-based clothing and accessories company that sells their pieces via catalog and online in the UK, US and Germany. Their collection is full of items for many parts of a busy fashionista or fashionisto lifestyle from work to play with sizes ranging from 2-18 including petites.  The footwear for women starts at 5 ½ and goes to a size 10 ½. Moms and Dads who crave style for their children can also find great pieces for their little ones in the Boden baby and childrenswear collections.

For Spring 2013, ladies who love the brand are in for a fabulous treat! The clean, flattering silhouettes of the sixties were reflected within the collection and translated into modern styles, which includes pencil skirts, crochet dresses and shirts in fun wallpaper and psychedelic prints reminiscent of that time.

Rich textures filled the collection with metallic finishes, broderies and tweeds in pants, knits and dresses – all perfect for day to-night. For the cooler spring days, there will be plenty of cashmere and crisp cotton pieces perfect for layering.  Colors within the collection run the gamut from muted to vibrant – ideal for whether you want to go bold or simple and chic with your look.

Take my word for it…Boden loyalists will be VERY satisfied with this collection!!
